Many centuries ago, in a corner of the universe known as The Fourth World, the ancient gods destroyed themselves in a Ragnarok and their planet was split in two, giving rise to a new race of gods, the peaceful inhabitants of New Genesis, a planet led by Highfather, and the inhabitants of Apokolips, a planet ruled with an iron fist by the tyrant Darkseid. Description of Scott Free (Mister Miracle):

Son of the Highfather, he was sent to be raised on Apokolips, as a way to establish peace between peoples. However, he was raised in the harsh environment of Granny Goodness' dungeons, thus fleeing to Earth, where he was taken in by a magician known as Mister Miracle. After the death of his guardian, Scott assumes his alter-ego and becomes a superhero specializing in escapes.
