Synopsis

Hari Seldon spent his life developing a branch of mathematics known as psychohistory. With it he can predict the future, but only on a large scale. Seldon foresees the imminent fall of the Galactic Empire, and a dark age lasting 30,000 years before a second great empire arises. To ensure the more favorable outcome and reduce human misery during the intervening period, Seldon creates the Foundation – a group of talented artisans and engineers – to preserve and expand on humanity's collective knowledge, and thus become the foundation for the accelerated resurgence of this new galactic empire.

  • robertgertz I could accept a woman in the role as well. But the Mule I think should be portrayed as somewhat sympathetic and challenging Seldon's Plan in part out of anger for his/her past and in part with legit questioning of the future both Seldon and his 2 foundations would create (concerns even Asimov reluctantly admitted in later on in the series) The Mule does use emotional and mind control but he can't reproduce and would leave no dynasty to dominate the galaxy later as the Second foundation's mental elite would. (I would drop the born on Gaia stuff, it makes the Mule un-unique which is her/his whole point,) He/she acts as an anti-Seldon. I hope also his/her defeat becomes more of a compromise, not the rather wussy end at Rossum. I'd give Dagobert IX the last, expelled Emperor more as well...Not only as the Mule's puppet to provide his Union with imperial legitimacy, but taking a bit from "Stars Like Dust" reveal him to be the First Speaker of the Second Foundation with his own reservations about the Seldon Plan.
