Story Plot

Five Nights at Freddy's: A Hero's Awakening is a 2022 American epic action film written, co-produced and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It is the first installment in the High Legion film series and a spin-off to the Five Nights At Freddy's game franchise. The film stars Dwayne Johnson as Golden Freddy, an animatronic with human feelings who has been trapped inside of the Nightmare World. He eventually escapes as a force of good and protecting humanity and other animatronics from a terrible, prophesied mass murderer. The supporting cast includes Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, Crispin Glover, Boyd Holdbrook, Heather Masters, Anya Taylor-Joy, Keanu Reeves, Andy Serkis, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Laurence Fishburne. A Hero's Awakening was released on August 11th, 2022; it was a box-office success, grossing over $561 million, and received generally positive reviews, citing its performances, story, action sequences, Shyamalan's direction, visual effects, Hans Zimmer's score, and emotional depth. However, several of the crew who made the games panned the film for its character development, with many of them feeling that the story has no faith despite Shyamalan making a clear statement that it takes place after the events of the games. Its success prompted Shyamalan to develop multiple sequels, beginning with the 2024 film A Nightmare's Wrath.

  • Plot: In 2012, Golden Freddy makes a villainous deal with the Nightmare Animatronics, only to be betrayed by them, and they trap him in the Nightmare World. 10 years later, now remorseful of his evil ways, Golden Freddy escapes the Nightmare World and breaks the deal, now choosing to redeem himself and make a living by fighting evil.
  • The Puppet, who is a vigilante fighting crime in San Francisco, discovers Golden Freddy and they engage in a short battle before Golden Freddy tells the Puppet that he is no longer evil. The Puppet reluctantly takes Golden Freddy to the High Legion, a team of heroic, intelligent, celestial animatronics led by Shadow Freddy, who tells Golden Freddy that he is the prophesied "chosen one" who will vanquish the evil Springtrap and his team of villains that consists of Scrap Baby, Plushtrap, Molten Freddy, and Michael Afton himself.
  • Bonnie, known as "Dark Truth" in the High Legion, tells Golden Freddy of a powerful weapon called the Soul Sword: legend has it that this weapon can only be held by the "chosen one" as the prophecy foretells that this particular animatronic with the sword is humanity's last hope.
  • Meanwhile, Springtrap kidnaps Elizabeth Afton II, who is Michael Afton's daughter and was named after his younger sister, and the Legion learns of this. Feeling guilty over this, Golden Freddy sets out to find the Soul Sword, while the Puppet fights Scrap Baby. Shadow Freddy is killed when he battles Springtrap, but not before telling Springtrap that he did not intend to win.
  • Michael, revealed to actually be a double-agent for the Legion, leads Golden Freddy to the Soul Sword's location, and they eventually come across it. Springtrap attempts to take it, but it is too heavy as it is made by celestial steel. However, Golden Freddy, revealed that he is truly the "chosen one", is able to grasp the Soul Sword, and he subdues Springtrap and his team before escaping back to the Legion. Michael sacrifices himself to give Golden Freddy time to leave.
  • Golden Freddy shows the Legion the Soul Sword, with the Puppet remarking that it is real. Golden Freddy and the Puppet reconcile, and the Legion prepares to make a final stand. Golden Freddy battles Springtrap, who remembers that they were brothers once; Golden Freddy replies that his brother died "39 years ago that day in 1983”. The Puppet kills Scrap Baby after Foxy the Pirate Fox is overpowered, while Freddy Fazbear beheads Molten Freddy. Bonnie rips Plushtrap open and dumps his remains in the ocean.
  • Golden Freddy eventually gains the upper hand against Springtrap, and he catches the Soul Sword after it flies in the air, allowing him to fatally impale Springtrap through the chest. A remorseful Springtrap asks Golden Freddy to help remove the Soul Sword from his chest, which he does, and Springtrap fades to dust.
  • In the aftermath, Elizabeth thanks Golden Freddy for saving her earlier, and the Legion disbands. Golden Freddy promises to both Elizabeth and the Puppet that he will return before flying away using wind's current and landing on a high, snowy mountain to watch the sunrise as the end credits roll.
