E. Nigma is a small joke told with his pseudonym, since his real name is Edward Nashton, and which was changed to Nigma after he entered the criminal life. This allowed him to break ties with his past, due to traumas with his abusive father and his absent mother. He has an obsessive-compulsive behavior with riddles and puzzles, using them to commit crimes and challenge Batman. He considers himself intellectually superior and tries to prove it through his complex schemes and clues left for the police.
