Thelonious Gru, once the world's greatest supervillain, finds himself falling under the shadow of a younger emerging threat by the name of Vector, who had recently stolen the Great Pyramids of Giza. Deciding the steal the Moon, Gru and his army of minions steal a Shrink-Ray from a secret lab... only to have the Shrink-Ray stolen from them by Vector. Gru makes a new plan to steal the Shrink-Ray back using three orphan girls, but as his adoptive parental act starts to become real, Gru questions which is more important to him; His villain career, or starting the family he always wanted as a child?
