Dear Martin by Nic Stone follows Justyce McAllister, a Black prep school honor student, as he writes letters to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., seeking guidance on navigating racism, profiling, and injustice in modern America, especially after a traumatic police encounter and the tragic death of his best friend, Manny, forcing him to question if MLK's non-violent ideals still apply. The novel explores themes of identity, privilege, police brutality, and the complexities of being Black in a predominantly white world, culminating in Justyce's journey to find his own voice and path, eventually reconciling with his white friend Jared and heading to Yale.
