Adam Payton was a regular guy before he was struck by an alien energy beam and transformed into the Starlock. Starlock discovered the startling truth about his transformation: he was the reincarnation of an alien from the Throneworld Enclave planet known as Gavyn Warlock. Gavyn Warlock was created to be the perfect ruler of the Throneworld Enclave, but he disobeyed their commands and used his powers to turn into an energy beam and escape into space. When Gavyn Warlock accidentally killed Adam, he was in the form of an energy beam. He then took over Adam's body, absorbed his memories, and changed into the Starlock.
