Somewhere in an alternate universe.
After the success of Tim Burton’s Batman (1989), Warner Bros. decides it’s time to bring back Superman into the spotlight. The studio soon meets with David Lynch, and offers him to direct the reboot. Lynch agrees, but under one condition: he gets to have full creative control.
