Adewale was the quartermaster of the Jackdaw, the deuteragonist of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the captain of the Experto Crede, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry, and an antagonist in Assassin's Creed: Rogue. He was a friend of Edward Kenway who met his end at the hands of Shay Cormac roughly 40 years later. Behitha, a native Taíno woman and ancestor to Adéwálé, lived in the cacicazgo of Marién, near present-day Cap-Haïtien. She and her tribesmen watched from the shores as Christopher Columbus landed on Hispaniola in 1492 as an ally to the Spanish Assassins of 2016 film Assassin's Creed. He was dispatched to the New World by Aguilar de Nerha, the legendary Spanish Assassin who had been entrusted with a powerful Apple of Eden to ensure the artifact remain hidden until it was founded by Alan Rikkin in late 2016. Centuries after Behitha, her bloodline flowed into Adéwálé. Born into slavery, Adéwálé escaped his captors, became a pirate, and eventually joined the Assassin Brotherhood which dedicated his life to fighting tyranny and liberating enslaved people across the Caribbean, laying the foundational roots of Assassin resistance in Saint-Domingue (later Haiti). The Assassin bloodline continues into the 20th century through Dieudonné Arnaud Gauthier, a descendant of both Behitha and Adéwálé. Gauthier operated in Haiti as a Houngan (a Vodou priest) and a Master Assassin. He used his spiritual standing and Assassin training to protect the modern Haitian people during the brutal, repressive Duvalier dictatorship (the "Papa Doc" and "Baby Doc" eras). From 1957 until the regime's collapse in 1986, Gauthier fought a shadow war against the blue uniformed paramilitary secret police, the Tonton Macoute, the regime's brutal militia who had desecrating graves, slaughtering entire provinces of Haiti, and enslaving humanity of the undead by the Macoutes when they buried corpses from local cemeteries under the cover of night after they died of poison by TTX that was used to turn anyone into zombies among the black population, while some were executed during the voodoo ceremony as part of human sacrifice underneath the Tonton Macoute headquarters by stealing their souls to put inside the voodoo jars of screaming victims which preserving the Brotherhood's freedom-fighting legacy until the dictatorship finally fell in February 1986.
