This entire episode is entirely a flashback episode because it's when Espio was little and his backstory started. Espio found his way to civilization as a homeless little orphan boy, crying about his family. Meanwhile, a crocodile named Vector had started detective work to put weight on his claims on how Robotnik is responsible for the bank robberies pulled off. He believes he was doing it to find money to build his robots. As he finds a way to do that, he finds Espio. Feeling sorry for the kid, he takes him in and ditches his goal to strengthen his claim abut Robotnik, and dedicates his detective work to finding Espio's family. Over the years, Vector has grown fond of Espio and was more like a father to him. He practically raised Espio as his own!
