Arriving on Earth for his conquest mission, Captain Mar-Vell instead falls deeply in love with human culture. Guided by the fierce and independent Carol Danvers, the Kree soldier realizes he cannot participate in the Kree's takeover. Determined to end the intergalactic bloodshed, Mar-Vell takes a massive risk: he travels to the Skrulls, offering an apology and begging for an alliance to halt the war. Skrull Queen Veranke takes a distinct liking to his bravery, sparking a subtle, flirtatious tension between the two leaders. However, word of Mar-Vell's defection rapidly reaches the Kree capital, prompting Ronan the Accuser to launch a localized armada invasion of Earth to crus him and claim Earth. Mar-Vell intercepts the strike force alone, utilizing his full cosmic powers to fly straight through the Kree battleships, annihilating the fleet. Amidst the fiery rain of debris on Earth, Ronan spots Carol Danvers bravely trying to assist Mar-Vell. Seeking leverage, Ronan fires a lethal explosive device at her. Mar-Vell dives into the blast radius, using his own body as a shield to absorb the shockwave and protect Carol. Ronan and Mar-Vell have a 1-on-1 fight. Pushing his power to the max, Mar-Vell is able to defeat and kill Ronan, saving Earth from the Kree. In the aftermath, Captain America arrives just a second too late to join the fight. Witnessing the devastation, Cap approaches Mar-Vell, jokingly offering, "We sure could use a warhead on the Avengers." Mar-Vell smiles and asks, "What is an Avenger?" - A playful nod to earlier conversations where Carol told Mar-Vell about them. Mar-Vell declines the offer, stating his power is needed across the stars to dismantle the Kree regime, leaving Earth behind as a celebrated cosmic savior. In the credits scene, Carol Danvers wakes up in a cold sweat from a nightmare. Looking down, she gasps as she realizes she if floating high above her bed, confirming the Kree blast permanently infused her with abilities.
