Captain Marvel (2019)

Carol Danvers is a talented but reckless Air Force pilot whose arrogance causes a disastrous mission, leaving her grounded and questioning her worth. She accepts a security position aboard a S.W.O.R.D. orbital station, where she meets Dr. Walter Lawson, secretly the Kree warrior Mar-Vell. When Skrull infiltrators attack the station, an experimental faster-than-light engine powered by Tesseract energy explodes, exposing Carol to the Space Stone's power and transforming her into a human-Kree hybrid. Carol travels with Mar-Vell to the Kree Empire, where she joins Starforce and becomes an elite cosmic warrior. However, as she fights the Skrulls across the galaxy, Carol discovers that the Kree Empire is actually an authoritarian regime and that the Supreme Intelligence has deliberately prolonged the Kree-Skrull War. Carol eventually learns that Mar-Vell secretly loved a Skrull named Anelle and that they had a son, Dorrek, who possesses both Kree and Skrull heritage. When the Kree capture Dorrek and both civilizations prepare for a massive war, Carol realizes that she has been allowing her need to prove herself to turn her into another weapon of the Kree Empire. During the final battle, she stops fighting simply to win and instead uses her powers to protect civilians and end the conflict. Mar-Vell sacrifices himself saving Carol, inspiring her to destroy the Supreme Intelligence and embrace the identity of Captain Marvel. After returning to Earth and reconciling with Maria Rambeau, Carol chooses to become a protector of the galaxy, leaving Earth behind to help worlds that have no heroes.
