  • misterwolf Twenty-three years later, Mary is a 30-year-old divorced mother who has recently won custody of her daughter Marilyn from the abusive hands of her ex-husband. However, she is also struggling to find a job to support Marilyn, and she has quit her career as a Hospital guard. A man named Franklin interviews Mary for a job as a night watch officer for an abandoned Candy's Burgers and Fries building where animatronics have been tampered with permanently to move at night. Mary reluctantly takes the job when Franklin offers extra money to help support Marilyn.

  • misterwolf During the first night, Mary starts hearing cat meows, which she vaguely recognizes, while also having a vision of the Puppeteer trying to kill her. A few minutes before 6:AM, Mary sweeps up cat-like fur from the floor after discovering it, before leaving the building and reuniting with Marilyn.

  • misterwolf On the second night, Mary encounters the Origami Cat, the robot animal who was meowing on the first, and deduces that it shed the fur she had cleaned. It also talks with a voice identical to that of Gallus, whose traits it has also taken on. Realizing the true meaning of her cat's words, she tearfully embraces Gallus.

  • misterwolf When Mary's neglectful caretaker for Marilyn goes missing, she is for to bring her daughter with her and Gallus, who befriended the child. While Marilyn sleeps, Mary and Gallus discover through the cameras that Candy and Cindy the Cats, the mascots, are moving, as are the Penguin and Chester the Monkey. Gallus tells Mary of a legend resolving around a version of Candy who is a darker blue than the mascot himself, but assures her that it is only a legend, unaware of the obviously abandoned and deactivated Candy in the backrooms. Night three ends, and the trio returns home. Mary dreams of the Puppeteer being the culprit behind the tampering of the animatronics, and because Gallus is now a spirit possessing a robot, she realizes that the Puppeteer, who died in prison, has somehow come back to life. On the fourth night, Mary has Gallus watch out for the Puppeteer while reluctantly allowing a fearful Marilyn to watch the cameras; Mary crosses paths with Cindy, who chases her slowly until she reaches her office and closes both doors, saving both her life and Marilyn's, while Gallus enters the office through its window. Blank, a long abandoned animatronic, comes to life and kidnaps Marilyn, forcing Gallus to chase after him with Mary close behind.

  • misterwolf Mary and Gallus save Marilyn just as 6:AM approaches, allowing them to leave the building. Before returning to the building for the fifth night, Mary, with Gallus' help, gains control of a dream involving the Puppeteer; she realizes that Franklin is the Puppeteer's twin brother, whom he now possesses, before waking up and driving back to the building with Gallus and Marilyn.

  • misterwolf On night five, Mary is forced to allow Marilyn to watch the cameras while she and Gallus explore the building to investigate a strange noise they heard, and Candy appears, continually chasing them until they deactivate him with a taser; just as Candy shuts down, Gallus suddenly expresses a horrified behavior when looking through the dark, and when he and Mary spot two glowing eye pupils, Gallus subsequently says "It can't be... He's real." They both realize that the old Candy is approaching them, and they quickly run back to the office, only to find that someone has kidnapped her again. When they eventually find her, a marionette whose face resembles that of the Puppeteer.

  • misterwolf The Puppeteer, now calling himself Vinnie, attacks Mary and tries to kill Marilyn, but Candy arrives, having kept following her and Gallus after they deactivated his newer counterpart, and seemingly strangles Vinnie to death, before fighting Gallus; as Gallus and Candy fight, Mary frees her daughter before assuring her that she loves her very much, and then they aid Gallus. Realizing that she, Gallus, and Marilyn are no match for Candy, Mary modifies and animatronics and reactivates them, and they all quickly overpower and damage Candy, who starts to twitch ans malfunction. The newer Candy screams a triumphant cat growl as he and the other animatronics including Cindy and Blank drag Candy away, allowing Mary and Gallus to carry an unconscious Marilyn out of the building and back home.

  • misterwolf In the aftermath, Franklin, who is now free of his brother's possession of his body, gives Mary a $6000 paycheck before shutting the building down permanently and moving the animatronics to a factory. As Mary is about to get an interview for a new job and Gallus watches over Marilyn, the former hears a faint echo of Vinnie making a whale grunt, but she ignores it, oblivious to the glowing eyes watching her but letting her live, indicating Vinnie has survived. Before the end credits roll, Candy is permanently sealed in the basement of the now-destroyed Candy's Burgers and Fries building, and his eyes shut down, hinting that he will stay deactivated.
