10 comments on Burton-verse: Year One

  • nathanbates This is basically me hopping on the Keaton Returns bandwagon after The Flash trailer. What does the Burtonverse version of a Year One story look like? It basically starts out with Bruce as a Gatsby-esque lost soul. He’s tried the billionaire playboy thing and it all it’s done is empty out his liquor cabinet (over 6 bottles of champagne a night!) He takes up wandering about the city by night, sees the criminal element first hand and decides to act on it. It becomes an act of thrill seeking for him. He finally finds fulfillment in his encounters (this aspect is inspired by the Aronofsky/Miller Year One script.) As the story progresses, we see some of beginnings of his many quirks from the ‘89 movie and his targets grow bigger, more ambitious. He allies himself with Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent in order to try and take down Carl Grissom, Gotham’s current kingpin. Their operation is ultimately botched, however, by scuzzy inside man Lt. Eckhardt. The second half of the story revolves around the onset drama for the upcoming sequel to the horror movie hit “The Terror.” Basil Karlo, who earned rave reviews for his performance as the monster, fell victim to freak accident and has been left permanently disfigured. Rumors swirl that this was no accident at all… in fact it was the work of Karlo’s jealous co-star Matt Hagen who resented being overlooked despite being the headliner of the first movie. Only one person knows the whole truth: the young and intuitive female lead of the picture and Wayne party regular Julie Madison, who is determined to learn more about their reclusive host.
