"Blood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy tells the story of a young boy, the Kid, who joins a brutal band of scalp hunters in the American Southwest and Mexico during the 1840s. They are contracted by local governments to murder Indians for bounty, engaging in a series of horrific acts of violence and violence-induced madness. The novel explores themes of violence, morality, and the frontier.
