Agatha Harkness is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Fantastic Four #94 (October 1969).[1] Agatha Harkness is a powerful witch and one of the original witches from the Salem witch trials.[2]
The character debuted as the governess to Franklin Richards, serving as an ally to the Fantastic Four.[3] She trained the Scarlet Witch / Wanda Maximoff in the art of magic.[4] Harkness is the mother of the warlock Nicholas Scratch and the grandmother of the Salem's Seven. She has also been a member of the Daughters of Liberty. Originally depicted as an elderly woman, Harkness was able to become young again and increased her strength.[5]
Since her introduction in comics, the character has been featured in various other Marvel-licensed products, including video games, animated television series, and merchandise. Agatha Harkness made her live-action debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) live-action miniseries WandaVision (2021), portrayed by Kathryn Hahn. She reprised her role in the spin-off series Agatha All Along (2024).
