Based on the 1979 movie with Peter Sellers, this potential Broadway musical could have a song titled, "Chauncey Gardiner," after the family mishears his name. It's about a man (I thought he should be young rather than old) named Chance who worked as a gardener his whole life at someone's villa. But he was only educated via television. When his master dies, Chance gets kicked out and finds himself alone on the streets of Washington DC. But then the friendly upper class Rand family brings him in. As they become close friends with him, the Rands misinterpret everything Chance is saying, perceiving him as a fellow upperclassmen. He talks about gardening, but everyone thinks he is being metaphorical and before he knows it, he runs for political office. Meanwhile, some people try to figure out Chance's origins, since he has no birth certificate or social security number.
