While the announcement received some disappointment from DC fans, who felt that the character had received enough attention on screen, the pitch from comic creator Sean Murphy, which revolved around a cured Joker seeking to change his public image, sparked a lot of interest from fans. Batman: White Knight was an immediate critical and financial success and was instantly deemed as one of the best Batman stories upon its release.
