Synopsis

Batman suffers a mild heart attack and at the risk of being beaten to death by one of the kidnappers, is forced to betray one of his old oaths by using a gun to protect himself. Ultimately, Bruce decides his time as Batman is up and vows to "never again" act like a hero, shutting down the Batcave. By then, his allies ( Alfred Pennyworth , Commissioner Gordon , Lucius Fox , Leslie Thompkins , Renee Montoya and Harvey Bullock) died of natural causes or retired. His partners ( Dick Grayson , Barbara Gordon , Selina Kyle and Tim Drake ) are still alive and have grown old, falling out of touch or having falling out with Batman after also retiring as heroes.— The new Batman soon develops his own rogues gallery, with new villains (such as unscrupulous businessman Derek Powers who later becomes Blight, a metahuman who emits radiation; the seductive shapeshifter Inque
