Description of Phaidor:

Phaidor was the daughter of Matai Shang, the last Hekkador (leader) of the Holy Therns before their downfall in 1886. Having fallen in love with the earthman John Carter after he attempted to rescue her from black pirates, she was filled with envy when she learned that he was already happily married to Princess Dejah Thoris of Helium, and made several attempts to kill her. However in the end Dejah Thoris and John Carter's devotion to one another impressed her against her will and made her rethink her own infatuation.
