Two cousins, played by Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling, are attacked by goons who believe they are dealing with the American-Australian "Big Guy" (B.G.), and their lives take an unexpected turn. The real Big Guy, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, is a badass yet easygoing figure with a code of ethics respected by the underworld. As they struggle to escape, they discover they are mistaken for the Big Guy. Determined to clear their names and avoid the wrath of the Big Guy, they embark on a comedic journey through the city's criminal underworld, partnering with a lazy homeless man played by David Harbour.
