The Asylum is a safe space, a hideaway in plain sight - an institution meant to rescue, care for, and rehabilitate creatures of all shapes, sizes, and variations on physical existence - except when it maybe isn't. Rheesa Smith has been working at the Asylum for five years now, but never has she seen coincidences piling as high as they do on August the fourteenth. With a vague string of prompts that the tech team finds online, she follows the chain of events to a girl who is not quite human but seems to be precisely what they need to rescue Rheesa's brother, discover a violent hate gang that reaches across the country, and stumble upon an Amulet that holds a great power just waiting to be unlocked. This really isn't what she expected to fall into headlong when she made an obligatory appearance at the wedding reception.
