Entering the Animus, Desmond is transported to 16th-century Rome, where he assumes the role of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a fearless Italian assassin. Ezio is fighting to rebuild and protect the Brotherhood of Assassins, which has been shaken by internal betrayal. In this dangerous journey, Desmond/Ezio must infiltrate the heart of the Vatican, where the Templars are planning to take control of the city and thus rule the world. He joins other loyal assassins, such as Leonardo da Vinci, who provides revolutionary technologies, and the beautiful warrior Caterina Sforza, who leads the resistance forces. However, Desmond/Ezio discovers that his mission is not only to save Rome and the Brotherhood but also to understand his own destiny. He is confronted with disturbing visions that reveal his connection to the powerful Piece of Eden, the artifact that the Templars desire to possess. While battling deadly enemies and seeking answers, Desmond/Ezio must balance the present and the past, facing obstacles in both the 16th and 21st centuries. Will he be able to save Rome, protect the Brotherhood of Assassins, and unravel the secrets of his own legacy before it's too late?
