Chapter 2: The Hunter

Jules Kismet is an 18 year old scavenger who dreams of a better life for herself and her hunting partner, Alex St. Pierre. When Helena de Malherbe - Amity’s wicked matriarch - lures Jules into a black market scheme, in which trafficked humans may be sold to greedy giants, her life is thrown into the darkest recesses of humanity. Succeeding a narrow escape, Jules returns to Alex, finding that he has spent her absence getting acquainted with a gang of scavengers by virtue of an affair with their 16 year old leader, Lilly Crellin. All seems well at first; Jules proves a valuable asset to the gang through her natural scavenging talents. She befriends Travis Dickenson, the benevolent caretaker of the group, and Moriah Riordan, a soft spoken, submissive teenage girl who develops a spine through her bond with Jules. However, when Lilly and her most loyal comrades reveal their true colors, Jules and Alex end up with nothing; not even the clothes on their backs. Desperate to get their lives back on track, Jules finds hope in an uncharacteristic display of mercy at the hands of David Holter: a fierce and skilled hunter, feared, despised, and avoided at all costs by humans who knew what he was capable of. Is there truly a different side to David that Jules and Alex will unlock? Will he hold back on account of humans meeting a streak of continuous sour luck? Or, is that side reserved for Harper “Red” Lynch: a fierce woman, who, against all odds, managed to beat David at his own game?
