Porus was the king of the indian kingdom of Paurava, beetwen the Idaspes (nowadays Jhelum) and Acesines river (in the Punjab). Porus fought Alexander on the Idaspes River, deploying a great number of war elephants that scared the Macedonians. Alexander won that battle, but his army was exasperated, and him fascinated by the elephants and by Porus's bravery, so he let him as satrap of the region. He died in 317, killed by a Greek general.
