Philotas was son of the great general Parmenion. He was one of the companions of Alexander, and during the conquest of Asia he was appointed supreme commander of the companion cavalry, the elite unit of Alexander's cavalry. But, in 330 BC, during the campaign in Aria (north-eastern Iran/southern Afghanistan), he learned about a conspiracy against the king and did not refer those facts to him, so, when Alexander was aware of the conspiracy, along with his generals, sentenced Philotas to death.
