High School Principal Born into a middle-class family in Texas, Laurie was raised to value education, responsibility, and achievement. She became the first person in her family to earn a doctorate and built her career around helping young people succeed. She married Brian in her late 20s, and together they created what appeared to be the ideal suburban family. Over the years, however, Laurie gradually became defined by her roles as wife, mother, and principal. By now, she begins realizing that she sacrificed much of her personal identity while becoming the person everyone else needed.
