Description of Miss Caroline:

Miss Caroline is an elderly white woman not much taller than Addy. She lives alone in a white house with red shutters on a little hill near where railroad tracks cross each other. She is an abolitionist and assists enslaved people in escaping their enslavement. While she appears brash and unkind at first, it is part of the cover for her assistance. She does not support the Confederates and is not willing to assist them in any way. She has known Solomon Morgan since they were both children on farms next to each other.
