Broadway Musical Original
The show opens with Feyre hunting in the brutal winter woods to feed her starving family ("The Cold Between Our Bones"). When she kills a massive wolf, she unknowingly breaks a magical treaty. A terrifying beast bursts into her cottage, demanding a life for a life. To save her family, Feyre agrees to spend the rest of her days in Prythian, the magical realm of Fae ("The Border of Mist"). Arriving at the Spring Court, the beast transforms into Tamlin, a High Fae Lord masked by a curse. Feyre is hostile, viewing her captor and his emissary, Lucien, as monsters ("In a Cage of Gold"). However, as spring blooms, Tamlin reveals his vulnerability and the blight destroying his lands ("The Thorns We Wear"). Feyre begins to paint again, finding freedom she never had at home, and a passionate romance sparks between her and Tamlin ("Color the Sky"). Just as they confess their love, the shadow of Amarantha—the tyrannical queen ruling Prythian from Under the Mountain—looms. Tamlin, desperate to protect Feyre, sends her back to the human realm ("Go"). Back home, her family is safe and wealthy thanks to Tamlin, but Feyre realizes she cannot abandon the man she loves. She returns to Prythian, only to find the Spring Court abandoned and ruined ("Act I Finale: I Will Find You"). Feyre journeys deep Under the Mountain to confront Amarantha. The wicked queen offers a cruel deal: if Feyre can solve a riddle or survive three deadly trials, Tamlin and his court will be freed. If she fails, she dies ("The Rules of the Game").
