Description of Walt" Merrick (flashback main character N3/17 years old):

Walt is the eldest son of a navy officer and grew up moving frequently along the East Coast. Despite a stern upbringing, he was drawn to the arts early on—especially the theater. Against his father's wishes, he enrolled at a liberal arts college to study drama and literature. He carries himself seriously, trying to balance the tension between wanting to create and feeling the burden of family expectations.
