Is it me or does Hollywood not care about stopping whitewashing? Like, look at Gods of Egypt and Genesis Gods and Kings? One of the criticisms was that there were hardly any Arabic actors in them? And The Last Airbender got stick for casting white actors as Asian and Indigenous American characters.
Whitewashing
Well, it's not just those. They whitewashed live action anime too as seen with Ghost In The Shell which takes place in japan and all the characters have japanese names but they were all played by white actors.
True
while i don't know why, but some people just like it when japanese characters played by white actors and they don't like it when japanese characters played by an actual japanese actor. they made an excuse saying "japanese actors couldn't act for shit, so whitewashing is okay". that's only for some people tho, a few others (including me of course) are against whitewashing japanese/asian characters ( tho acting skills still matters ). there was a story about Neon Genesis Evangelion here, but when japanese actors got casted for the japanese character roles, a lot of people downvotes it (tho there are also the ones who upvotes and agrees with the suggestions)
You know I read something once that really bothered me. It was about Exodus: Gods and Kings and how it got into trouble for casting white actors as North African characters. Apparently, Ridley Scott said that he couldn't market the film if the lead role was played by "Mohammed what's-his-name". Like, what the actual heck?
There's a user in a Doctor Aphra story which DOWNVOTES EVERY ASIAN SUGGESTIONS FOR THE CHARACTER, (which is actually Asian) but also, he suggested Mary Elizabeth Winstead for the character!
What's the username ?
Oh, nevermind. I know who that guy is. Saw him and his friend downvoted a japanese actor suggestion on a God Eater story weeks ago.
@iamanerd is that one i'm talking about
Can you give me the link to the God Eater story?
He and his friend only downvoted Shun and Kanon's actor suggestions :

I feel offended for someone not loving Japanese actors & actresses
Mycast users love this too. Check out this: https://www.mycast.io/stories/little-einsteins-live-action-reboot/roles/june/447941A Korean character's casting suggestions are mostly white and Latina. This is so wrong especially since it's pretty obvious June is Asian.
This People Think Asian Actors Are Not Talented 😞😞😞
There are still whitewashing/raceswapping here these days. Especially if you look at some Attack on Titan stories, people seem to cast white and non-asians for the role of Mikasa Ackerman. Like, why?? Mikasa being asian is a part of her character, you take that away then it'll be just another typical Hollywood live action anime adaptation flop.
I really don't wanna bring this up again m8, but I've got no choice.
Someone literally came up to my Fatal Frame 2 story and whitewashed Mio and Mayu (casting white twin actresses for the roles). I meant for my Fatal Frame fancasts to have an all Japanese cast, and yet here we are.
Had to block the person and put up a warning afterwards. Guess stories with full Japanese casts (especially anime and video game adaptations) are really guaranteed to get whitewashed eventually.
Tbh, I'm tired of putting warnings and reminders for my fancasts, as it's kinda off-putting imo. But it's my story, I can do whatever I want with it. If I don't want white or any non Japanese actors in my stories then there's that.
Same happened to me weeks ago, someone came up to one of my Jujutsu Kaisen fancasts and whitewashed Yuji and Nobara by casting Tom Holland as Yuji, and Sadie Sink as Nobara, then mass downvote the Japanese actors that I've casted.
I've put a reminder of "NO WHITEWASHING" on the story, but it seems the guy was like: "pfft idc, Japanese actors sucks, whitewashing better 🤓"
You're right, I guess even a simple reminder won't stop em from whitewashing fancasts that was meant to have an all Japanese cast : (
God, in a mood dealing with site culture stuff so I'm gonna drop here and say: GOD, IT'S SUCH AN ISSUE, IT SUCKS. The whitewashing at least gets called out on the live-action end, but on the VO end I constantly see people fancast white VAs as charas of color, even if say, the OP outright calls for VAs of color only or if it's like. Blatant that the character is a POC in some form. I've already lamented my one stalker who got all upset because he got blocked for casting a bunch of white VAs as charas of color EVEN THOUGH I made it clear I wanted VAs of color only on one of my fancasts, but on my Precure English dub fancasts I'd have to routinely block people for suggesting white VAs for the darker-skinned charas and non-Japanese charas of color, EVEN THOUGH I blatantly said in the description to only cast say, Asian or Latine VAs or whatever. That's not even getting into having to regularly do so on my Sonic fancasts because people missed the message and constantly cast white VAs (but most of the coded charas of color being voiced by white VAs in canon doesn't really help that I feel...)
While I'm complaining, I might as well complained about some of whitewashed fancasts' horrible little cousins too:
1. People look at a dark-skinned or visible nonwhite chara of color and immediately suggest the most light-skinned and white-passing actor there is. Horrific colorism and pretty adjacent to whitewashing, plus a lot of these types will go out of their way to downvote actors who actually are dark-skinned or visibly not white.
2. People who don't whitewash poc... But then when they do cast for them, they get like. One random popular person who doesn't even fit the character while the same person puts a ton of thought and effort into casting for the white charas. On the VO end because that's mainly what I do, I constantly see, for instance, Zeno Robinson get fancast as Every Single Fictional Black Guy there is, even though he wouldn't fit the character at all (seriously. How would Zeno work as a voice for TERRAFIN FROM SKYLANDERS or BLACK PANTHER when his range and typecasts don't even fit them???). It just reeks of laziness and not wanting to care about poc at all.
Coming back to this because oh my god just found an egregious example. So, kicks and giggles, found a random Captain Planet fancast and looked at the suggestions for Ma-Ti. For reference, Ma-Ti is a visibly dark-skinned character (by show standards) and is of Indigenous Brazilian descent. It's not specified what tribe, but he's most likely Kayapo as he was based on real-life Kayapo activist Paulinho Paiakan.

These suggestions? Are literally all extremely light-skinned/white passing Latino actors, one Asian child actor fsr, and then just a generic unknown child actor. Like. You couldn't even go to the effort to find an indigenous actor for the INDIGENOUS CHARACTER???
