Thread for Specific Criticisms of the new design

ok, we all have our gripes about change, and its clear that management isnt going to go back to the old layout, so rather than just b*tching and moaning about how we all hate the new design, please start listing down specific gripes that you have in the hopes that we can get them fixed so we can all get back to using this site like normal

1) the popup window that comes up on browser when you search for an actor to suggest is not wide enough. for instance, if you search up something with a long name, (specific example here: i typed in "unknown child actor" but it gets cut off after "unknkown child" and then you cant see the full names of everyone on the list, which is a lot, so you have to guess which one you want and then delete the ones you dont later

2) pinning stories to our profiles was free before, although the system was weird, but now it's locked behind a paywall. and that feels gross. if management insists on this system, let people pick a few stories to pin on their profiles, but double it if you have a premium account.

I have a few criticisms in mind that I want to address:

1) the paywall subscription as mentioned. Many of the features that were added require a paid subscription to use, which sucks because I can’t afford it and I really want to use these.

2) the suggest talents customization. For some reason, the suggest talents no longer allows for me to search actors younger than 18 for fancast choices. Even worse, even when I do make very specific suggestions, it doesn’t show anything. In the previous format, when you didn’t have any specific actors in mind, you’d at least have the option to suggest talents with specific attributes you were looking and be given options. Here I didn’t have that luxury. I want to be able to suggest talents if I don’t have any in mind.

3) in a heavily collaborated casting, there is no longer a way to differentiate which suggestions are the ones you made vs the suggestions by others without individually mousing over each portrait. previously the border would be a light grey color for your suggestions and a black border for suggestions by others.

Ok fine. Here are some things in this new myCast that need to be fixed.

1. Role Order is free again, but I can't move them around.

2. The "Next Role" & "Previous Role" buttons take us to the wrong characters.

3. I need the option to make some roles that I can allow other users to make suggestions in a story where only I make the suggestions back.

4. I'm not getting emails of notifications like from before.

5. Order of suggestions for roles is completely out of order.

6. I can't see who voted on my suggestions.

@spidersonicprime I agree with your number 3 and 5. Here's mine:

1. My casting suggestion suddenly goes missing on the role after refreshing the page, despite I already provided them. Plus, going back to the main page of the story, the suggestion was there, but when I clicked on the role, it's not there.

2. Similar to your number 3 suggestion, I need the option to block certain users from specific stories without blocking the user's account back. Paying in order to blacklist certain actors from your specific stories is such a pain.

3. Like my no. 2, bring back the option where we can block users from the account settings. It's kind of a pain to go directly go to the user's account to block them. Like, what if they blocked you first? U can't do anything about that.

4. Lastly, I didn't get any notifications about users tagging me on stories recently. (Or maybe I didn't get any site notifications at all?)

That's all for now. I agree with your number 5 because the order of suggestions on some roles of the stories shows that the most voted suggestion/the very first suggestion u made wasn't the one that was shown, but instead the one that has the least vote, even if u tried to decrease the vote by downvoting it.

On the first two points: site sometimes lags when processing new casting suggestions on role pages, but they usually show up after a few minutes. Lag getting fixed would be nice - also wrt blocking, blocking users from your account now removes all their casting choices from your stories so if the issue here is people spamming unfitting actors that should fix it? If not, be sure to let staff know.

* also an addendum on point three: blocking a user doesn't prevent them from viewing your profile anymore I believe, so you can go to someone's account profile and block them back if they're giving you grief.

For the "Next Role" & "Previous Role" thing taking u to the wrong role, it directs u based on alphabetical order and not the character role order, at least that's what I know from my end.

- bookmarks are gone (or idk where they are)

- nationalities under actor/talent profiles is limited to just a few options

1. The sudden integration of AI, nobody asked for it and it's completely unnecessary

2. Same with @dafilmqueen about paywall subscription, why block certain function behind a paywall, I don't want to pay money to change pictures or whatever, I understand that the website needs money to function but this is not the way to do it

3. The layout is just ugly, genuinely awful

Honestly, I would prefer if the website went back to the previous update, at least, that one was functional

I don’t want to automatically dismiss the new website design. There are plenty of bugs that need to be fixed. However, what bothers me most is the paywall requirement for features that used to be free, as well as for new ones. Personally, I see this as a way to drive away many current users. I would suggest an alternative. First of all, I’m perfectly fine with more ads if it leads to better features. But more importantly, instead of a traditional paywall, I’d suggest the option of voluntary contributions, where everyone can set their own amount. In my opinion, anyone who enjoys coming back here could contribute once every six months or so, depending on their means. But I think forcing us into a subscription is a mistake.

UPDATE: Okay, my "criticism no. 1" is already fixed somehow. I just forgot to mention that in my end, for some reason, I was unable to log in to my account manually. Had to log in through my google account cuz whenever I provided the right password and username for my account, it keeps saying "Invalid email or password". And I tried to reset the password but for some reason, I didn't receive any emails and all I got whenver I tried it again was "email limit/rate exceeded" or something.

Also, the view images for casting suggestions is kinda ugly as it was small circles instead of the usual square. But that's beside the point, there's still no such issue I'm having an actual problem with other than the ones I stated previously.

I think my current #1 problem with how things currently are is that IDK how to contact MyCast support. It just has a link that reads support@mycast.io that doesn't lead to anywhere except to open Google Chrome. I tried emailing them but it's apparently not a valid address. If someone knows how to contact them, let them know that I think something's wrong with the tagging system. I've only used forums maybe once in my life here so I don't know if I'll even get a response but I just needed to share this and maybe it'll lead to this particular problem getting fixed.

@Castingsinmyblood: I also emailed them at support@mycast.io, but that address didn't work, so I emailed robby@mycast.io and finally got a reply, and I was able to log in again. Now, when I want to add a new character to my story, they don't show up on the character's profile only on the "Recent Suggestions" page. So until they fix all the bugs, I'm not going to start any new stories, because it would drive me crazy.
