Star Enters the Arena in the New Prequel
The Capitol just got a little more stylish—and dangerous. Edvin Ryding, the breakout star of Netflix’s Young Royals, has officially been cast in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the next chapter in the wildly popular dystopian saga from Lionsgate. Ryding will be coming alongside the latest casting news of Iris Apatow as Proserpina Trinket.
Set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, this new installment takes fans back to the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell—a brutal edition of the Games that saw twice as many tributes sent into the arena. Fans of the book series will recognize this as the year Haymitch Abernathy fought—and survived.
Ryding’s role hasn’t been publicly confirmed, but speculation is already heating up online. Will he play a tribute, a Capitol elite, or even a young Haymitch himself? No matter the character, his casting brings an international fan base and major Gen Z energy to the franchise.
He joins a growing cast that includes Iris Apatow, Jax Malcolm, and Sandra Forster, under the direction of Francis Lawrence, who previously helmed three of the original Hunger Games films. Filming is set to begin later this year, with a release date anticipated in 2026.
