First appeared in Black Hammer #1 in 2016 and was created by Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston. After a NASA spaceship had crashed on Mars, the Martians considered going to war and a Martian named Mark Markz was chosen to go to Earth and learn the ways of their people. He arrived in Spiral City, saw a dead police officer, and took his identity. He would also save people in his Martian guise as Barbalien. After defeating the Anti-God with several other heroes, they were all transported and trapped in a town called Rockwood.
