Alternate Real Life Production: During development of the film, Stephen Sommers decided to step down from his position as director and gave it to Zack Snyder, Stephen Sommers would still contribute to the film as a producer. Description of Zartan:

Zartan was the callsign of a man who was a master of disguise. An agent of M.A.R.S. Industries, later Cobra, he uses his impersonation skills to advance their agenda. Zartan is James McCullen's personal aide and assassin, but unknown to McCullen, Zartan is conspiring with his superior Rex Lewis in order to take over the organization and rule over it. Once he's injected with Nanites, he infiltrates The Pentagon to find the secret files of the hidden island for Cobra to station in and once Zartan find them, he sends out the coordinates to his allies before destroying them from ever being recovered by the government.
