Synopsis

Valyn, Kaden and Adare, the three grown children of the recently assassinated Annurian Emperor, are scattered across the world, set on different life-paths by their father without explanation. Valyn is training with the Kettral, an elite special ops force that flies covert military missions on giant hawks. Kaden is an acolyte studying the ancient mysteries of the Shin monks high in the Bone Mountains. And Adare remains at home in the Dawn Palace, navigating the complex ins and outs of Annurian politics. With the murder of their father, each has become a potential heir to the throne and target of the same insidious conspiracy responsible for his death. Will sibling rivalry and mistrust keep them apart? Or will they come together to defeat the real enemy threatening the empire and all of humanity...

Description of Kaden:

At 18, Kaden is the youngest son of Annurian Emperor Sanlitun hui’Malkeenian and heir to the Unhewn Throne. Although Kaden is royalty, he has been training on the other side of the world with the Shin monks for half his life. The monks have beaten out of him any sense of his own privilege or station, and though he knows in an abstract way that he will be returning to rule the empire someday, he is far more focused on the challenges of his life around the monastery. He has a hard time relating to his brother and sister because he has been trained to remove all emotion from his mind in order to gain a special power that only the Annurian Emperors possess.
