It was unsuccessful for Project Cadmus to create an adult Super-Soldier clone that could control gravity. In the "accidental" lab explosion Kenny Gargan set off, geneticist Peter Parker was killed. At a much younger age, Parker's clone awoke and emerged from the rubble. Because he was worried for the clone's welfare, the project's director, ThunderBolt Ross, adopted the boy and gave him the last name Ross. Pete and his "Uncle Gen" were a happy family until a thief killed Ross. Pete swore to put himself in danger and bring attention to himself in order to attract criminals' attention away from innocent civilians because he felt like he had been treated like a child during the incident.
