Just asking. I never mean to cause harm. And I discovered only recently that a user I considered an ally on this site blocked me all because I didn't want to get involved in a larger drama between him and another fellow user I considered an ally. Now I must preface I was responsible for a campaign that resulted in a nonrelated user no longer being active on the site (or at least steering clear from my posts). But in order to defend my actions, I must preface this inactive user was whitewashing brown and black characters. I, as a Latinx movie buff and comic fan, do not tolerate this on any level and I sought to do something about it. I also must recognize that I, in a way, contributed in this by casting Peter Capaldi (my second favorite director) as Ra's Al Ghul, continued to cast Henry Zaga as Roberto Da Costa, and casted Ana de Armas as a younger version of a character played by Priyanka Chopra. The first I can't really defend myself for as I am a diehard comic geek. Capaldi is just one of my favorite actors, and all I can say is I thought he'd be a good Batman villain. As for the other two, hopefully, I can more adequately defend myself. For Zaga's Roberto, I was never that much aware of the complex political climate of Brazil and the fact that Afro-Brazilians were counted as second class citizens; I never got into X-Men as I started reading comics post-House of M and deemed the X-Books "too in depth" for me to get into. As far as I was concerned when it came to Roberto, going off of Hickman's (and Ewing's subsequent) New Avengers Book, Roberto was a Brazilian that sometimes (depending on the artist) had quite a tan. And as for the final mistake, it was a Star Wars story where Chopra played a nightsister, my reasoning was that the makeup that it takes for one to become an alien opens the door for numerous casting decisions that wouldn't have been possible had it been a human character (and yes, I'm just now realizing how bad that sounds). My only hope is that I'm not "the new castjacker", who if you don't know is the mycast equivalent of Martin Shkreli. My only regret is that maybe I've made more mistakes than I realized. That's why I'm making this a forum post. If you think I done f'd-up, tell me below. I promise I will read all comments and I will become better in the future.
