While the opening numbers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker were under expectations it appears as if the movie has hit its stride with a strong second weekend. The last movie in the Skywalker Saga had the second best Christmas Day ever and brought in $72 million in its second weekend. The box office is still behind The Force Awakens, but has caught up with The Last Jedi which had a bigger opening weekend then a massive drop when some realized it was a garbage pile (personal opinion).
Little Women was third with $16.5 million and looks to be the holiday alternative to Star Wars for fans. Spies in Disguise made $13.2 million in fifth and Adam Sandler's Uncut Gems brought in $9.5 million as Oscar talk picks up for the film.
Next week has the remake of The Grudge before a grouping of movies open up over the following weeks including 1917, Bad Boys For Life and Dolittle.
