Jumanji: The Next Level Plays Well Enough To Take Down Frozen

Jumanji: The Next Level Plays Well Enough To Take Down Frozen

You cannot deny the appeal of Danny DeVito.

Jumanji: The Next Level knocked Frozen off the top of the box office with $60.1 million making more than studio expectations of $45-$50 million. More than that the sequel to 2017's surprise brought in $212.8 million worldwide showing that there is indeed more juice left in the franchise.

The other new releases were 4th and 5th respectively with Clint Eastwood's Richard Jewell taking only $5 million and the remake of cult horror movie Black Christmas made $4.4 million along with bad reviews from critics and fans. Like most remakes, just go watch the original.

Frozen 2 dropped to second with $19.1 million and passed $1 billion worldwide. Knives Out stayed strong with $9.2 million as Ford v Ferrari came close to crossing $100 million.

Next week is what fans have been waiting on as Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker releases. The movie is looking to make over $200 million in its opening weekend and in no way challenge Avengers: Endgame's weekend record. This shows how Star Wars may have fallen as a franchise with the ending of The Skywalker Saga nowhere close to challenging the record.
