Joker Back To The Top- Weekend Box Office October 25-27, 2019

Hard to keep the clown down.

Joker is the movie that keeps on rolling with another week at #1 barely beating out last weeks top film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The DC comic movie now stands as the highest grossing R-rated film in history with $849 million and is a more profitable film than Avengers: Endgame with Joker's budget only being $55 million.

Maleficent was second with $18.5 million with its worldwide take at $293.5 million. That seems good for a sequel nobody asked for but it is a far cry away from breaking even with the budget and marketing the movie had. The Addams Family and Zombieland: Double Tap held strong with $11.7 million and $11.6 million.

The new releases of the week included the horror film Countdown that grossed $9 million making back its $6 million budget, Black and Blue was sixth with $8.3 million, the Willam Dafoe/Robert Pattinson psychological period tale The Lighthouse made $3 million and The Current War with Benedict Cumberbatch was ninth with $2.7 million.

Next week is the return of Linda Hamilton to the Terminator franchise with Terminator: Dark Fate.  Reviews have been good with many saying it is the best in the series since Terminator 2 but the bar for sequels after T2 is not the highest.
