It: Chapter 2 Opens With $185 Million Worldwide- Weekend Box Office September 6-8, 2019
A lot of pennies for Pennywise.
September 8, 2019
It: Chapter 2 was #1 at the box office this weekend. That is not surprising. The surprising part is the dropoff from the original films opening. It opened in 2017 with $123 million blindsiding expectations and they were even larger for the sequel that finishes the story of the Losers and Pennywise. The film made $91 million domestically which was a great, but still oddly underwhelming take. The good news is that it did well worldwide and has a total of $185 million after 3 days. It: Chapter 2 also has a runtime of almost 3 hours which could have affected the number of showings over the weekend in theaters.
The rest of the top 10 remain almost unchanged. Angel Has Fallen made $6 million in its third weekend and Good Boys kept dropping slightly for third.
Next week brings The Goldfinch, based on the popular novel and Jennifer Lopez's Hustlers. Pennywise should remain #1 again.
