Yama Rahimi was born in Kabul, Afghanistan; finished high school in Germany; studied photography, web and graphic design in San Francisco before attending Los Angeles Film School to study film. He established WHY R? FILMS in 2002. He has written, directed, and produced two short films, "Object of Affection" and "Suspicion." He's currently developing several feature films. Yama Rahimi was one of the eight producers selected for the prestigious "Produire Au Sud" Seminar at the Festival of 3Continents in Nantes, France in November of 2004. He's also a member of the "Producer's Network" at Cannes Film Festival where he was the first ever producer from Afghanistan (2005 - 2009). In 2007, Yama Rahimi launched the non-profit ZAMEN INTERNATIONAL to help young filmmakers in Afghanistan after doing a successful "Seminar On Cinema" at the University of Kabul. Due to personal reasons and never ending conflict in Afghanistan, ZI was put on hold. Yama is hoping to relaunching it in 2019.
