First appeared in Fury/Agent 13 #1 in 1998 and was created by Terry Kavanagh and Ramon Bernardo. Rick Stoner was the first Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., appointed by Howard Stark. After his apparent death at the hands of Hydra, he felt abandoned by S.H.I.E.L.D. and traveled back in time in an unsuccessful attempt to stop its creation.
