Grandpa Phil

Grandpa Phillip "Phil/Steely Phil" Shortman (born c. late 1910s) is a fictional character from the animated series Hey Arnold! He is Arnold's good-natured, cheery, and funny paternal grandfather, Gertie's husband, Miles's father, Stella's father-in-law, and Mitzi's fraternal twin brother who is the co-owner of the Sunset Arms boarding house with his wife and is often giving advice to Arnold when his grandson faces a dilemma of his own and those of his friends and peers. Phil has known his wife since they were in grade school and has had a relationship that was similar to Arnold and Helga's own when they were their grandson's age, except Gertie's pranks were more vicious and extreme toward Phil. While not quite to the same extent as his wife, he has a rather eccentric personality similar to both his own father and grandfather. Though he's generally happy and good-natured, he can get rather grumpy when dealing with the antics of his wife, Arnold's friends, and especially the boarders.
