Born in Puerto Rico but raised in the Bronx, New York. At an early age he joined the United States Air Force, after being discharged from which he became a police officer in New York City. His work in the police force allowed him to develop as an actor and later get work in television and movies, mostly in the roles of police officers. Also, through his work in law enforcement, Zayes was able to play roles on the other side of justice, such as that of Enrique Morales, one of the most memorable inmates in the prison drama Prison Oz. Over the course of 28 episodes in 2002-2003, Zeyes' character emerges as one of the most violent inmates featured in the series. Zeyes also pursues a musical career - he plays percussion with Jason Mraz. Since 1992, he has been a member of the LAByrinth Theatre Company, an itinerant acting group that Zayes left for projects in television and film. But thanks to this group, he diversified his resume with cameo roles in various television series such as "New York Undercover" and "NYPD". Also in this group included his future wife - actress Lisa Colon-Zeyes.
