The budgerigar, also known as the common parakeet, shell parakeet or budgie, is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot. Naturally, the species is green and yellow with black, scalloped markings on the nape, back, and wings. Male Budgies have blue cere around their nostrils, where is females have brown cere around their nostrils. Budgies are one of the most popular pets in the world, ranking just behind dogs and cats, and it's no wonder. This affectionate, cute bird species is small & inexpensive & if trained properly a Budgie can mimic human speech. These small parrots make delightful pets, there usually friendly & easy to tame. A pair of budgies will, generally, be happier than a single budgie. They are sociable birds, and in the wild they live in large flocks. Two birds, and a couple of mirrors, will recreate the contact and noise of a flock (albeit a very small one). Budgies can eat banana, strawberries, apples, grapes, oranges, peaches, blueberry, pear, raisins, mango, melon (all varieties), nectarines, cherries (ensure you've removed the stone) and kiwis. Tropical fruits are also a favourite.
