Andrew Neiman

Andrew Neiman is a fictional character appearing in the 2014 film Whiplash, from which he serves as the protagonist. He is portrayed by Miles Teller. Andrew is a student at the prestigious institution Shaffer Conservatory in New York, where he is studying to be a jazz drummer. As a first-year jazz student, he is particularly focused on becoming the best jazz drummer in the world and has even moved his dorm room mattress to the school's practice room to be able to practice at all hours of the day. His goal is to be accepted into the school's competitive studio band, which is led by the renowned musician and conductor Terence Fletcher. Andrew's main challenge is trying to impress Fletcher, who is known for being tough on his students and using harsh methods to push them to succeed. Despite this, Andrew believes that Fletcher's tough mentorship is necessary to help him become a great drummer.
