This 1962 live-action adaptation of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" takes a unique approach. The film opens in 2000 AD, where a wise old man named 66 recounts the story of his grandfather, Quasimodo, to his wide-eyed great-grandchildren.
Through 66's narration and flashbacks, we are transported to 15th century Paris. Quasimodo, a kind-hearted young man with a facial deformity, is confined within the bell tower of Notre Dame Cathedral by the strict Archdeacon Frollo. He dreams of a life beyond the gargoyles and longs for connection.
