Story Plot

The Bloop is a 2024 science fiction action film directed by Steven Caple Jr. and produced by Zack Snyder and Jerry Bruckheimer from a screenplay by Steven Spielberg. It is the second installment in the Sea Monsters Universe and a follow-up/prequel to The Serpent. In addition to Salma Hayek returning from that film as Sofia Herrera, it stars Christian Serratos as the younger Sofia with Dylan O'Brien, Tom Holland, Millie Bobby Brown, Tika Sumpter, David Strathairn, and Christopher Judge. In the film, a pregnant Sofia is forced to team up with her abusive ex-husband and his more reasonable superior to investigate the presence of a sea monster terrorizing the North Atlantic. The Bloop opened in theaters on July 31st, 2024; the film was very well-received by critics and audiences, who praised the action sequences and the performances of Serratos and Hayek. However, it was a box-office disappointment, grossing only $472 million worldwide, failing to break-even of its $178 million budget. Another follow-up entitled Bukavac was released the following year, while a proper sequel to The Serpent entitled The Terrors of the Lusca is in development

  • @nickienicks @castingsinmyblood @otsutsuki @pumpkinchowcorg and @robertcooper Paul Reubens too?! Come on man! THIS. IS. BS!!!! Anyway, welcome to the Bloop. Robert, you've got the end credits song, just make sure it's 1990s because this film is set in 1994. Enjoy. Now I've gotta collect my thoughts again. Crap....
  • Plot: Doctor Sofia Herrera recounts her days as a diver and adventurer back in the 1990s; in 1994, Sofia struggles to swim, unaware that she is pregnant. When she hears a loud ambience, she investigates it, only to discover a dangerous creature.
  • Sofia reluctantly teams up with her ex-husband Armando Polish, the man who also abused and cheated on but impregnated her. Armando's superior Admiral Locke and his daughter Vivian join them on their hunt.
  • The creature is identified as the Bloop, and it attacks Armando's brother Kevin. He survives but at the cost of his right arm, while military general Wallfisch joins the hunt. Caroline, Armando's sister, tends to Kevin's injuries while Sofia reconciles with Armando.
  • General Wallfisch sacrifices himself as bait for the Bloop, allowing the others to escape. Caroline discovers that Sofia is pregnant, and reveals this to her. Sofia realizes that as long as she is on the sea, her child will never be safe. The Bloop catches up to them a few hours later and damages Admiral Locke's ship, while Armando's ship sinks. They join Locke on his still-operational ship, and Vivian begins repairing it while Sofia and Armando hold the creature off.
  • They manage to injure the beast, but it escapes. Sofia tells Armando about her pregnancy, but decides against telling him it is his, feeling that it is not the right time. The Bloop suddenly reappears, with Admiral Locke giving his own life by letting it consume him, while Kevin is also killed. General Wallfisch, who survived being killed by narrowly avoiding being eaten, emerges from the flames of Locke's now-sunken ship.
  • The group is forced to battle the Bloop; much of the ship's remainder is destroyed by the creature's attacks, while Wallfisch, unable to avoid his fate, lets himself be eaten by the beast, but not before he equips a bomb vest. As the creature eats him, the vest explodes, weakening it.
  • However, it reemerges from the water, forcing the group to escape. Sofia tells Armando that he is the father of her unborn child; as the Bloop resurfaces and attacks them, Armando, unwilling to let Sofia and their child die, fights the beast and equips a grenade belt. As the Bloop overpowers him, he pulls the safety off of the belt and lets the creature eat him. The explosion kills the Bloop, allowing Sofia and the others to escape. Sofia spots a fishermen ship, and the group climbs aboard it; three months later, Sofia gives birth to Lucía. As Sofia watches the sunrise with Lucía in her arms, it fades back to her older self, also watching a sunrise. Sofia acknowledges "Lucía may have the stubborness of her father, but she'll always remember that she has so much to live for", and then the end credits roll.
